Germany Student visa Updates 2024

Germany has recently put into effect the next phase of its updated skilled worker law, which came after the first part was put into action in November 2023. The goal is to draw in talented individuals from different sectors, with a focus on easing restrictions for international students holding visas to work up to 9 months before starting their studies.

As of 2024, there are many job vacancies available in Germany. The new visa regulations in Germany now permit international students to work during their studies. Student visa holders in Germany are now eligible to engage in part-time jobs. Furthermore, German university graduates have the opportunity to obtain permanent residency after acquiring two years of work experience.

Here are the things you want to know

  • Work options available before beginning your studies:

Non-European citizens are eligible to apply for a study visa, which allows them to stay in the country for up to nine months while preparing their university application. During this time, they can take language classes, gather required documents, and get used to the new environment they live. Importantly, students from developing nations can now work part-time for up to 20 hours a week to support themselves financially. These updates are advantageous for international students, especially those who have yet to start their careers and can benefit from the revised rules. The new regulations make it easier to balance work and study in Germany throughout all levels of higher education, even before being accepted into a program.

  • Extended post-study stays:

German university graduates now have the opportunity to stay for 18 months after graduation to search for employment, and they can even apply for permanent residence after two years of working. These regulations have not changed, which means that graduates who want to switch careers have another option: they can apply for the EU Blue Card or the German Skilled Worker Visa. Additionally, individuals with a degree or vocational qualification recognized by Germany can also apply if they have two years of relevant work experience, regardless of whether it’s in the same field or industry as their qualification.
