First PNP Draw of 2024: Results from January 1-12
Ontario
Ontario conducted two draws under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program this week. Specifically, on January 9, the province held dual targeted draws for applicants within the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream. The first draw aimed at 821 individuals in healthcare and tech occupations, with a prerequisite minimum score of 40 or above.
Simultaneously, another draw within the same stream extended invitations to 630 candidates in skilled trades occupations, necessitating a minimum score of 33 or higher.
On January 11, an additional draw was hosted, welcoming 2,552 candidates from the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream. These candidates, already part of the federal Express Entry application pool, were required to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score falling within the range of 350-424.
British Columbia
On January 10, British Columbia issued invitations to over 372 candidates across three streams of the BC PNP through a series of five draws. The most substantial draw encompassed a general invitation, extending offers to 110 candidates from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, Entry-Level, and Semi-Skilled Worker streams. Skilled Workers and International Graduates were required to attain a minimum score of 120, while Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled Workers needed a score of at least 100.
The remaining four draws were specifically targeted towards Skilled Worker and International Graduate candidates in particular occupations. This included 74 candidates in construction occupations with a minimum score of 75. For the other three draws, all candidates were required to achieve a minimum score of 60 and invited:
113 candidates in childcare occupations
75 candidates in healthcare occupations
A number fewer than candidates in veterinary care occupations.
Manitoba
On January 11, Manitoba conducted four separate draws under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP), inviting a total of 431 candidates from three streams. Among these draws, two were dedicated to Skilled Workers in Manitoba. In the first draw, which considered all eligible profiles, 166 candidates with a minimum score of 607 were invited. The second draw, specifically for 168 Skilled Workers in Manitoba with close relatives in the province who are either Canadian citizens or permanent residents residing for at least one year, required candidates to achieve a minimum score of 607 for consideration.
The remaining two draws targeted 58 candidates from the International Education Stream and 31 Skilled Workers Overseas candidates, both with a minimum score of 639.
What to expect in the Provincial Nominee Program 2024?
Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan for 2024-2026 outlines the intention to welcome 110,000 new permanent residents through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) in 2024. This approach is grounded in the collaborative effort between the federal and provincial governments. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) assign a certain number of nominations to provinces annually, considering factors like the current population, infrastructure, labor force requirements, and the availability of settlement services.
Provincial Nominee Program
The Provincial Nominee Program or PNP is a potential pathway to receive a Canadian permanent residency. Each PNP has one stream that is aligned with the Express Entry System, known as ‘Enhanced Nominations’. The advantage of enhanced PNP is that they award an extra CRS score of 600 points, guaranteeing PR to the applicant through express entry. Also, another stream under the PNP is known as ‘the base stream’. Here, you can apply to a PNP stream directly and once you obtain a provincial nomination, the federal government will process your permanent residence application.
