NMBI REGISTRATION GUIDE FOR INDIAN NURSES - G3 APPLICANTS
Ireland offers Indian nurses an excellent opportunity to build a long-term career in one of Europe’s most dynamic healthcare systems.To work as a nurse in Ireland, you must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). Indian nurses who qualified out side the EU are classified as Group 3 (G3) applicants.
THE TWO-STAGE NMBI REGISTRATION PROCESS
STREAMLINED PATHWAY
NMBI assesses whether your Indian nursing qualification meets Irish education standards. Each qualification is assessed individually based on its theory content, clinical hours, and subject coverage.
A compensation measure is required in approximately 95% of non-EU (G3) applications. Direct recognition without a compensation measure occurs in less than 5% of cases.
The assessment results in one of the following
outcomes:
- Qualification Recognised - proceed directly to Stage 2 (less than 5% of cases)
- Compensation Measure Required - complete either the RCSI Aptitude Test or a Period of Adaptation before proceeding ( approximately 95% of cases)
- Further Information Required or Provisional Refusal
COMPENSATION MEASURE
RCSIAPTITUDE TEST OR PERIOD OF ADAPTATION
RCSI APTITUDE TEST
- Available only for nurses applying to the General Nurses division.
- Involves a theory component and a practical assessment conducted in person in Ireland.
PERIOD OF ADAPTATION
- Supervised practice at an approved Irish healthcare facility.
- Required for all divisions other than General Nurses.
Matrixx Overseas recommends the RCSI Aptitude Test for eligible General Nurse applicants, as it has a defined timeline and completes the process faster than the Period of Adaptation
REGISTRATION AND DECISION LETTER
Once your qualification is recognised, you provide your English language evidence and complete your registration. NMBI then issues your Decision Letter (DL) – the official confirmation that you are registered and
permitted to work as a nurse in Ireland.
English Language Requirement
NMBI requires a valid English language test result as part of Stage 2 registration. Accepted tests include IELTS Academic and OET . Test results must be less than two years old. NMBI accepts only one test result and does not accept combined results.
Certain applicants with prior overseas nursing experience may qualify under an alternative pathway. Eligibility is assessed individually during consultation.
Important
Do not travel to Ireland or resign from your current position until you have received your NMBI Decision Letter.
NMBI REGISTRATION FEES
NMBI registration involves fees payable at Stage 1 and Stage 2, with an annual renewal fee thereafter. Fee details are provided during your consultation with Matrixx Overseas.
