Fifth Express entry draw of December: IRCC invites 1,000 candidates in a category based draw for trade occupations

Fifth Express entry draw of December

On December 19, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited candidates in the fifth Express Entry draw of December. The department issued 1,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) in a category-based selection draw for trade occupations. To be considered, candidates must have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 425.

The trade occupations eligible for express entry include:

  • Residential and commercial installers and servicers
  • Elevator constructors and mechanics
  • Machine fitters
  • Heating, refrigeration and air conditioning mechanics
  • Construction millwrights and industrial mechanics
  • Carpenters
  • Plumbers
  • Electricians (except industrial and power systems)
  • Welders and related machine operators
  • Contractors and supervisors, other construction trades, installers, repairers and servicers

The last express entry draw was held yesterday and invited 1,325 in an all-program draw.

Express Entry Program

Express Entry (EE) is an online system for immigration applications, providing individuals the opportunity to submit their profiles for consideration as skilled immigrants. The selection process prioritizes candidates with the highest rankings, who are subsequently invited to apply for permanent residency. The Express Entry Program was introduced by the Canadian Government in 2015 to tackle the skilled labor shortage in Canada. The old Canada Immigration System was slow and had a lot of backlogs. The sole purpose of the new system is to immigrate skilled professionals in a faster way. The Express Entry system has now become the most popular immigration system globally.

Category-Based Express Entry Draw

Sean Fraser, Canada’s former Immigration Minister, has announced the implementation of a category-based express entry draw targeting Express Entry candidates. These draws aim to attract a greater number of highly skilled professionals specializing in specific occupations that are in high demand within Canada.

The categories under the Express Entry Programs are:

  • Healthcare occupations
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) occupations
  • Trade occupations
  • Transport occupations
  • Agriculture and Agri-food occupations
  • French-language proficiency

IRCC reviews these categories each year and may change them in the next year.
